Hey, I'm currently re-reading the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy, but once I finish that I don't have any books of much interest left to read... So my favor that I'd like to ask, is for all you well read people to recommend a few books to me. :)

A few topics I like are conspiracies, freak nature, technology, space, anything science-y, and anything 'out-there' I guess. Although I'm completely open to suggestions from any genres (Well... Ones you can read in school =P).

I'll end the post with the typically English expression; Cheers!

It doesn't fit any of your favourites, but I find Bill Bryson quite funny. I'm currently reading "Notes From a Big Country".

I'm currently reading the 4th book in the Twilight series, the author (Stephenie Meyer) creates great characters, though the main intended audience are teenage girls ;)

Some of my favorites are:

The Amber Chronicles (http://www.amazon.com/Great-Book-Amber-Complete-Chronicles/dp/0380809060/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223804740&sr=8-1) by Roger Zelazny. It's a really interesting series, sci-fi/fantasy but really unique. The main characters are semi-gods, and the entire universe is just shadows of the city of Amber, it's a very original creation.

I've always liked Raymond E. Feist, Terry Goodkind, Robert Jordan, and RA Salvatore's books, but they're pretty much strictly fantasy novels. LE Modesitt Jr has some good books (http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Recluce-Book/dp/0812505182/ref=pd_sim_b_2), first ones are more sciency, while the later books are more fantasy.

Stephen R. Donaldson's Covenant Series (http://www.amazon.com/Fouls-Chronicles-Thomas-Covenant-Unbeliever/dp/0345418433/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223805073&sr=1-12) is really interesting, though past the first trilogy the quality lessens. It's about an author who contracts leprosy, then he gets transported to a different world where he isn't a leper anymore and his white-gold wedding band holds great power. It's kind of a crazy adult version of Chronicles of Narnia.

Orson Scott Card has a lot of interesting books, especially Ender's Game (http://www.amazon.com/Enders-Game-Boxed-Set-Hegemon/dp/0765344955/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223805545&sr=1-2), where the military trains kids to play these video games, when actually they are controlling real ships and fighting in a war. He also has a cool alternate-history series where everyone has a knack/magical power and the main character is the seventh son of a seventh son (http://www.amazon.com/Seventh-Tales-Alvin-Maker-Book/dp/0812533054/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223805438&sr=1-20), giving him powers comparable to Jesus Christ.

The Watch Series (http://www.amazon.com/gp/series/94257/ref=s9kser_t1_ser-rfc_g1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=top-1&pf_rd_r=083AD4B0ZRH49632ZGXH&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_p=447162401&pf_rd_i=night%20watch) are these Russian novels where angels and demons are real and fighting behind a treaty. It's some cool stuff, though all the Russian names do get confusing. Also, talking about confusing books brings to mind The Clockwork Orange, where a whole teenage slang was created. It's a crazy book and movie. Oh, again, another book comes to mind, 1984 (http://www.amazon.com/Nineteen-Eighty-Four-George-Orwell/dp/0452284236/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223806593&sr=1-2) is a crazy book about Big Brother, pretty much what everyone was afraid communism would become.

There's also a really cool and unique cyberpunk book called Snow Crash (http://www.amazon.com/Snow-Crash-Bantam-Spectra-Book/dp/0553380958/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223805625&sr=1-1). It's all about completely interactive internet and crazy vision of the future, and, who can't like a book when the main character is named Hiro Protagonist. :D

Well, that's not a bad list, I've covered most of my favorites, though there are a lot of other good books out there. Have fun! :) If I think of anymore great ones, I may edit them in.:ninja:

I do enjoy a bit of comedy AJ, so I'll check it out.

Completely forgot about Dan Brown's books! Thanks Kiwi.

:O BigZ! Some of the suggestions sound great... And I have been meaning to read 1984 since I read about it while researching... Thanks!

Plus rep all round! :]

Angels & Demons is one of the best books ever written IMO. Also try the book To Kill A Mockingbird. You either love it or hate it.

If you like fantasy my favorite series are The Belgariad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Belgariad) and The Mallorean (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mallorean)

You can never go wrong with Clive Barker. I think this is my favorite book of all time: Imajica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imajica). There's also, The Great and Secret Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_and_Secret_Show), Weaveworld (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weaveworld), and Coldheart Canyon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coldheart_Canyon). There's a ton more books he's written. You should defintely check him out if you like the "out there" stuff.
