Ok guys, I know that Season 4 has just finished, but I want to give you all some ideas of what I would like to add to Season 5 to improve it. Also, if any members have any ideas that they think will help make the league better.
I would like to just run 1 season a year for now on. I would like to run it June-August with some off weeks in there to give everybody a break. I want to keep the 2 matches every week with the matches remaining only thurs-sun. I really liked how the idea of having 1 extra member per team sit out every week. I would like to do teams of 4 with only 3 scoring each week. I feel having the league this time of year will give us more gamers to join. I had alot of gamers tell me when signups for season 4, that they would like to sign up but they couldn't because they won't have time due to school. I think we can get more teams with several divisions, plus maybe a bigger playoffs.
Here is the major thing I would like to add. I would like to have a Board of Directors. I think 5 members would be perfect. There will be 2 already on the board, so I think the other 3 gamers should be voted by the members of the league. That way if there are any problems with the league the board can get together and have a vote, with having 5 there can never be a tie. What I would do for these 3 extra members, during sign ups gamers who sign up will give their opinions of who they would like to see on the board, once we have a list, every gamer will have a vote. The three with the most votes will be on the board. These board members can't be a team captain, but can play in the league. Also, they don't have to be in the league to be a board member either.
What does everybody think about these few ideas.

I like the idea. But I think the board should be picked by the GSL runners, not by the players. To me it seems it will be because I like so and so more than the other guy. When the other guy doesn't know anything of the GSL. I say you take the 2 current members of the board and have them pick the other 3.

These are my thoughts:
1. That season of 7 weeks was way too long for me. Granted I work around 80 hours a week but still, 3 months is ridiculous. Why don't we have more competitions that are shorter so that more people can play but that people don't burn out.
2. I like the idea of a Board of Directors - but they should in no way be participating in the league. That only leads to problems. They shouldn't be elected by the gamers of the league either. Maybe the players who participated in Season 4 could choose, of you and Mango can elect and choose.
3. You should have the option to sub more than 1 or 2 players. If a team mate is under performing and isn't responding or providing a real reason for their performance, then you should have the option to sub them out.
These are just a few that Ive thought of, Ill post some more ideas as I come up with them.

Comon,
I don't think I'm gonna change that number because it really didn't make a huge difference in any of the standings for Season 4. But, I will be checking every tag to make sure that no gamer creates a new gamertag to have an advantage. Remember all tags used in GSL must be the original tag for that gamer.

Great Idea 1) No mods or staff should be allowed to play in the GSL to prevent add-in rules, ridiculous rules, biased opinions, or corruption.
Great Idea 2) Don't cancel the league early.

How about a Team Canada? :)

Mods and Staff should be able to play, but you need to have a third party make any league calls.
Third party can be one or a group of people not participating but rather refereeing. Tripl already said he won't be playing so he could be head ref, with two others to assist and share the responsibilities.
Honestly, I personally would have more fun verifying and enforcing rules to ensure a fair run for all than to slave away for another 7 weeks. But that's my personality.
And if I could suggest one more, team of 4, 3 active a week with 1 on the bench. Or for even more flexibility, keep 5 on a team with 2 on bench with requirements to play a minimum amount of games for all players. Absent teammates should not be a factor for failure for any team at any week and it's a crying shame and a real damper on the fun when one does.

Apple,
I'm not gonna say that Staff can't play in the league because the league is for all site members. But, like I posted even before season 4 was over, I will not be playing in leagues anymore, personally. With a board of directors also, everything will be determined by a group of 5, so that not a single person can't be attacked for any decisions made.
Also, I don't know how many times I have to explain to you that a warning by staff in a thread isn't a rule made up on the spot. At any given time a staff member can post in a thread to warn members to drop a certain matter and explain what will happen if they don't drop it. I think alot of people forget that I just don't run the GSL, but I'm also a mod on the site & when I warn members about something for them to take me serious.
But, this thread isn't here to discuss anything about Season 4, it is here for Season 5, so I don't want to discuss anything about what happened at the end of Season 4 anymore in this thread. It's over so everybody needs to move on from it.
But, thanks for your ideas for Season 5 and if you have anymore please feel free to post them here.

.
Okay correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a season 5 Discussion about what Flaws Season 1,2,3,4 has had to make season 5 that much better? You can't Ignore what happened at the end of season 4, cause clearly members were disappointed in the canceling of the GSL at the end..
So instead of avoiding the problem and telling everybody to drop it, why don't you try to resolve it and make a solution for next GSL. So this does not come up again!! Cause what if it does, are you going to cancel the league once again??
You/members need to come up with alternatives for this problem in case it arises again.. Don’t ignore it, cause that is not going to get anything settled..

Tripl299 x3h is not ignoring the situation he is trying to prevent the same thing from happening as this is why the thread is created. He is not here to discuss season four he is here to discuss season five. The discussion of the previous gsl's aren't needed. Just recommend improvements what could be beneficial to the next one.
-I like the idea of board of directors kind of. I don't like the idea three members could be voted in. There are several people in here that probably could make people come out of the woodwork to vote for them. The board should be implace before hand. I don't know how to make the board seem fair, but people that have been in a gsl been on the site for a long time or moderators would be fine with me.
-Any complaints about the boards decision not in pm should be penalized
-The gsl discussion board shouldn't be allowed to those not participating
-There should be no messages to team's if they are quitting or forfeiting the week. If a captain tells the other team they are quitting. Even if in pm I think that should be the official scoring for the week.

Exactly why I didn't play this year, though having a baby didn't help much in my time frame either.
The "Board" needs to be set up ahead of time. All decisions made by the board would have to be done on a vote. Also there needs to be a good way to choose the said members of the board.
Also, the idea that if you are not in the league, you can not post in the threads about the league is a good idea. That would cut out a lot of BS.

You didn't honestly think you could make a thread about the gsl without people bringing what happened back up. I've been quiet this whole time, but I fucking wasted $100 on game rentals for the playoffs that were thrown down the fucking drain. I don't know how you can have the audacity tripl to even try and run another gsl when clearly you aren't emotionally fit to run it.
I know its hard to run a league but you can't take away peoples right to protest. The thing that really sucks is that the god damn 300 fucking points might have not even mattered in the outcome of the match. Who knows why zzjj wanted to waste a 300 point set-up achievement that takes 10 min to unlock in the first minutes of a match any way. As the head of the league you should have some understanding for peoples emotions and if their need to vent, telling them they can't argue is only going to upset them further. You can power-trip about being a mod all you want but everyone's voice should be heard.

Great Idea 1) No douchebags should be allowed to play to avoid complaints about rules decisions that had a very small effect on the outcome of things. Also, this could avoid getting people who can't decipher between a discussion about a league and a staff member giving warnings for conduct on the website. The league is run by the website and is a privilege for the community members. If you try and take advantage of the website, honestly, fuck you. That's what someone did and Trip, as a STAFF MEMBER, took away the PRIVILEGE to play in the league. End of topic.
I love the idea of people being able to only post in the league if they are participating. There was entirely too much of the bullshit where people who saw 1 gamers name and stuck up for him, even if they had 0 clue about what was going on. I'm not pointing out anyone in particular but it was ridiculous. It's just like this election. If you didn't vote and make your voice heard, I don't care what the fuck your opinions are. Keep out of it.
This thread is for discussion on what happened in the previous season, only indirectly. Tell us what we can improve on, stop bitching about something that is weeks old and no one cares about anymore. Remember what I said, being a member in this league is a privilege from being a member of this website in good standing.

One thing that greatly confused me at the end of last season, and something that should be remedied is the deduction of points. First when tripl decided to exclude a person from that's week scoring and even the adapted point deduction was ridiculous. Even if he stated he would do so if the posting about the 300 points continued, he never should have stated that. The only reason any points scored should be modified is if they are gamesaving, or somehow else being cheap in the way they are scoring points.
If someone should be a douche bag in the discussion thread, I have no problem with mods banning the person, but in no way should the points the person scored be affected. Every 300-1000 points someone scores equals $60 the person spent, let alone the time they put into it. It's not fair to penalize someone for words, especially when the person initializing the penalty has a potential to benefit as a result.
That's just my 2 cents :)

I pretty much decided I wasn't going to say anything, but since you're asking for feedback, I'll offer it.
I think a lot of frustration is coming from the decision to end the league early. Sure, there were some people fighting, acting inappropriatly, etc, but there were also a lot of people in the league who never said a word of complaint and who just played the way they were supposed to. And maybe they haven't said anything about it because it's not in their nature to complain (which is why they didn't do it during the season).
The 7 weeks of scoring represented a lot of money spent, a lot of sleep missed (and probably some work missed too), and a lot of time on the part of many people involved. And in my opinion, those people (and I count myself as one of them) deserved to see the season play through, whether they were in the playoffs or not.
Of course it's your league and you can run it how you want, but my suggestion is that you take the possibility of ending the league early completely off the table, period. A successful GSL requires a lot of people making a large commitment, but I think there are plenty of people who won't make that kind of commitment again without a commitment from those running the league that they'll see it through to the end. (yeah, I know I said commitment 3 times in that sentence :p).
Season 4's over and done with and most people could care less whose fault it was that things happened the way they did, but what's left is an asterisk in the record books where you're listing the past GSL champions. And I think that's unfortunate.
The board of 5 members seems like a good idea to me, but you might want to include the provision too that none of them are on the same GSL team, just to avoid conflict on that in the future.

Better yet, none of them ON a team. And if anything, maybe we should just go ahead and draft upcoming rules and regulations now so we have a whole year to scrutinize it.
I hate to say it, but when I realized that the facilitator of the GSL was also participating, my first thought was worry that he was going to overburden himself with responsibilities with too many organizations; the league, the team and the personal life. The only way to prevent any grey space is to ensure that a participant only has a responsibility to either a team or the league but not both.
People who volunteer to ref/mod would not be allowed to interact with participants, which include boosting to prevent arguments against ref/mod neutrality.

Big Z, thanks for your comments. But there are few things that I would like to state, first stating that I would do if somebody would post about the points again. The thread was totally getting out of hand. If you have been around this site long enough, sometimes the only way to get members to totally listen to you is if you have to threaten them somehow. When I posted it, I didn't really think anybody would actually keep discussing the points and test me. This was the first time ever as a mod that I have ever posted anything like that & I think the person who posted didn't think I would actually go through with what I posted would happen. Second, I had no personal benefit from deducting any points. At the time that all of this went down, I had spent more time posting in the discussion thread then I did playing games.
I think most people like the idea of a board of directors. I kinda of like the idea that all board members aren't playing in the league so that other teams can't say that any decisions are helping any board member's team. So, right now there are 2 board members. If any gamer that has played in the league before and would be interested in being on the board again, please send me a pm and let me know that you are interested. Then Mango & myself will go over the names that I get and decide on 3 other gamers to help us make Season 5 the best season ever. I only want to improve this league for the gamers of this site.
Better yet, none of them ON a team. And if anything, maybe we should just go ahead and draft upcoming rules and regulations now so we have a whole year to scrutinize it.

Ryot, the only thing about asking volunteers not to interact with participants will kinda be hard. Lets say gamer 1 is on the board of directors & isn't on a team. His friend gamer 2 is on team 1 and his other friend gamer 3 is on team 10. He has been friends with the both of them for a long time. We can't tell him that he can't play games with his friends that he has had longer then the league has been around. Let's face it, no matter who we put on the board they are gonna have friends that are gonna be in the league where there are gonna be games coming out that may require some online playing for achievements. How do we monitor who a board director is communicating with or playing games with?? Both of them might be playing Halo 3 at the same time but might be in different rooms. Also, alot of the gamers who still have the games that they have completed will help any gamer who needs help if asked. I myself get messages all the time asking for help with boosting for achievements that I already have. If I have the time, I will help anybody.

Kingxsaint, I totally agree with Nbag. Both of us know what it is like to play for a full week. We did it that way in Season 1 & 2, alot of gamers got totally burnt out doing it for a full week. I think the way that we have it with matches Thurs-Suns. That way if there are some games that you want to play for fun and not worry about getting points every second that you are on the xbox you can play them for fun.

Let me clear this one up as well...so no one has any gripes at any time in the future. If a member is banned at any time during the league, they are out of the GSL. Period, no ifs ands or buts about it. A ban signifies clear misconduct on the site, in any forum at any given time.
I for one will be returning as I am hoping the rest of my team will.

Just acknowledging the point that you made. But I guess that means my playing ethics is just a bit different than others when it comes to the separation of players and "officials."
But yeah, the only points that really had any real issues to improve were non-participating players, upholding regulations and establishing/enforcing rules. Rules were set but it just seems that penalties were not set in stone so it was left to the enforcers discretion.
The things that I did like was the 3 on 3 style that made gaming strategy more dynamic and probably made the league shorter. The live score tracking was pretty cool too and I didn't know that feature existed.

Well let me get my 2 cents in here without discussing the end of last season.
1st) Board of Director's is a great idea and hopefully it works out. I also agree it needs to be 5 members who are not playing in the league.
2nd) I for one will not be returning for Season 5. The ONLY way I'll be returning will be if I'm on a team with people I know, who I'm friends with and who I know will want to compete for wins. Not that my team in Season 4 was not a great team but we started out with only 4 players and did not really know each other which was not all too good.
3rd) I say we have some concrete rules to start Season 5. No rules that were made months before the Season starts. They need to be up to date and posted either a week or days before Season 5 starts NOT months before it starts.
4th) I think the season should be from May-July. That to me is a better all around time to get more participants to compete. But either way having the season during the summer is the best choice.
5th) You should be allowed infinite number of subs. But the only time you can use these subs is if somebody is not scoring any points (under 500 points in a week) and if they get the RRoD and can not get a new one anytime soon. To me that is the most fair as you will have some teams who have players that will not score any points.
Ryot Control
11-07-2008, 01:36 AM
I for one would never agree to infinite subs. But I'm understanding it as getting a new player every time something "supposedly" happens. That would mean there is a possibility of getting a new guy who can pop cheesecake games for one week then disappear from the leauge. That's why we minimize and lock in team commitments. When something happens that is beyond someone's control, because they have already established commitment to play that week it is up to them to rectify the situation within their power.
That's why I didn't complain when I let Bota boost with you, because it was my fault I grabbed the wrong game to play; or the final week when my 360 died on the final hour before I could pop the points in my 2k6 game preventing us from going into the semis. Because thems the breaks sometimes. Sure people will be pissed when it happens, but players would be even more pissed if we could just tap any random player to spot us for a week when something went wrong.
If you're talking about subbing in your benched player if something comes up for the commited player, well dang, might as well scrap the bench altogether and just count the entire team's points for the week.

Agree. Now that I think about it infinite subs would be too much but I think teams should definitely get more than 2 subs. At least up it to 3.
And I was not talking about the bench players. I was talking about the active players that play most of the season.

Ryot, I totally agree with you about having the penalties put in stone. When we did Season 3, we might have had a little bit of bickering, but we no way had the bitching that went on last season. I'll be the first admit that when the rules were made there was never a thought that some of the things happened would happen. But, now we know things like that could happen and we can address them in the rules for season 5 to make it better.

Bishop, I like alot of your ideas, but I personally feel the rules do need to be posted before we have sign ups, so that the gamers who want to sign up can read them and so can know what they are getting into. About the unlimited subs, we had that in the first 3 seasons and were always scrambling to get subs all the time. The whole idea of making small teams were gamers to get friends that they already gamed with so that you can get everybody on the same page. but, I know that we do get some gamers who sign up as individuals and most of the time a team will grab them or end up with other individual gamers. But, remember a GSL is a great place to meet new friends. I know about half of the friends on my friend's list I meant in GSLs. But, I think making teams of 4 with only 3 gamers playing each match will make it easier to get great teams together.

They can be posted before the sign-ups but they need to be updated before the season starts. That's what the problem was with last season they were not updated.

As for what other people think, yeah the group of gamers that are your side might be saying that, but I've gotten plenty of personal messages stating otherwise. Alot of gamers are actually the whole drama is over with now.
And when a discussion thread isn't closed, allowing people to speak their mind, this is what happens.
I guess you can finally crawl out of that hole, Tripl.
I just want to recommend that this rule be stated, listed, in a thread, in the official rules, and anywhere else is should be. This will prevent you guys from saying "told you so" and then linking them the Season 5 discussion thread made a year prior.

I'd like to state one thing that I would like looked into.
It seems that my 360voice profile gets my scores at 11 AM, and if I get any points after it, then it goes to the next day. So that would give me 1 day to score (Sunday) as I have school and stuff. I know that I could play thursday and friday night and saturday, but I find it wierd that its pushed so early.

No common, the scores get pulled starting at 12:00am pst each day, but the blogs don't get posted until around 11am. It takes that long for the computers to make all of the blogs for the gamers.
Apple,
What hole have I been in?? Because I've been on this site everyday for the last two weeks working on achievement lists, guides, & oa files. So, I haven't been hiding in a hole from anybody.

One more thing, the position regarding achievements unlocked offline should be solidified. If you look at the 360voice challenges, offline achievements are legal, but with this there can be problems. The last challenge I was in we had a game saver/glitcher competing. Then in the one I just joined there was a person who hadn't logged in online in 2 months, meaning all the points he scored could have shown up immediately when the challenge started. Thankfully, both of these situations ended up okay, but it could cause problems in the GSL.
On the opposing side, what if someone doesn't have a stable connection during the scoring weekend? Should he be forced to hold onto the points till the storm clears or their internet provider stops being a douche bag? Then what if someones internet goes out right before an achievement unlocks? (happened to me a couple times) The live scoring doesn't realize what happened, and unless you have multiple private investigators combing through each person's score, no one would notice.
Maybe some rule could be created where as long as the person posts in the discussion thread as soon as possible how many points he scored and why he was offline, the points would count. But if someone abuses the rule, by scoring offline and then popping on before the deadline, all of their points would be wiped from that weeks scoring and they would be banned from the league.
Any opinions on that?

Just putting a scoring system idea out there. Here it is for example:
Team A
Player001- 100 000
Player002- 65 000
Player003- 38 000
Team B
Gamer001- 93 000
Gamer002- 73 000
Gamer003- 46 000
The match consists of 3 sub matches. The two highest gamerscores from each team play each other. The two second highest play eachother, and the 2 lowest play eachother.
Now these are matches against each other 1 on 1 style. The winner who has the most points at the end of the weekend gets a point for his team. It takes 2 points to win a match. So basically best of 3 series between 2 teams.
This system may possibly encourage people to play harder as they do not want to let the team down and they know there is no one there to back them up. While it is more of an individual match system it still involves team aspect. It also involves strategy as there is also a player on each team that is on the bench each weekend. You must pick players that will best suit your matchup with the other teams players for the weekend.
Then in playoffs it would revert back to total score of Team A vs the total score of Team B.
Just an idea, it is very original but it takes the idea of a Head to Head Gamerscore league to completely different level.

BigZ,
I'm glad you brought up the offline achievement question. I have talked this over with Mango several times. First we thought about have like 5 or 6 gamers assigned several tags a week then they check every tag for any offline at the end of the match. But, then I was thinking. If we goto 3 vs 3, how hard would it be if each captain checks the teams that he playing against. I will make a form and put it on the site. If a captain finds an offline achievement, they will fill out this form and email it to the board of directors. They will double check to verify that it was gotten offline, then they will notify the captain of the team that the team will lose these points. We will give each captain to Tuesday after the match is over to turn in the form for the offline achievement. Look at this way. Each team plays 2 teams a week. So a captain will only have to check 6 tags, but there will be 2 captains checking each tag, so if somebody does get an offline achievement, the board should get 2 forms, one for each captain.
Hammer,
I have thought about the head to head scoring that way already, problem is what if Stallion wants to play again & there is a team that comes into the league that every game on the team is under 40k, hasn't played any of the easy games yet. Now, I know that stallion is a great player, but do you think he would like to go into the match playing against a gamer with 32k knowing that it is him against that gamer?? Granted he might only have play him twice in the season. Another thing, It's kinda hard to change the scoring from 1vs1 all season to team in the playoffs. We do have to keep the scoring the same through out the season. But, it is something that board of directors can consider when they are making the rules for the season.
Everybody, I would like to say thanks for all of the great ideas so far. It shows that you guys want to make the league better. I'm gonna post this right now. I will commit to the fact that league will never be canceled early again. I want to say I'm sorry again to the players that it effected but weren't involved in the discussion at the end of last season.

My idea would be to shorten the weeks to 3 days of scoring instead of 4. 4 days seemed too long to me. Players could save some points for later in the season as well. Not just the high gamerscore players, but all players.
If there isn't one, there should be some kinda money back guarantee for those who donate and the season ends early. That doesn't include me so I'm not pressed about knowing if there is or will be one.
After what happened last season, maybe there should be a thread set aside for the sole purpose of complaining. There's always going to be complaints, arguments, bitching, whatever. It's a competitive event, trash talk, complaining etc. comes with the territory. I don't think personal attacks should be allowed btw. I don't know, just a thought. I couldn't care less about what happened last season. It's not gonna stop me from whoring!

Yeah that is what is gonna happen. Code has been really busy but that is what he is gonna do. The rookie of the season & most improved player are gonna get microsoft point cards. The rest will be used to help maintain the site. The last time that I spoke with Code, we had only gotten $150 in donations for the league.
Omega, like you said, I don't mind the trash talking and some of the other stuff. But, sometimes people don't know when to stop bitching about stuff. But, I think some of the things that we are gonna put in to improve the league will take care of some of the problems.

Everyone seems to want a longer season, which is fine, but that is something I can't commit to play in.
Ill just keep whoring on my own time. :)

On the corner, or in game?:p
If I could chose a time frame, it would be September - October/Novemeber/December, as I, like Hammer, have finals all through June, and it burns me out, and Im always busy during the summer. Theres my two cents.

x3nomorph thanks for the interest. So far only three people are interested in helping.
Hammer & common, I see what you guys are saying, but I personally think we will get more members to join if it is during the summer. We have alot of site members who are in school, that won't allow them to play during that time of year. I also like Omega Deez's idea of 3 days instead of 4. Matches Fri-Sun?? Could be a possible change that we could make.
Again thanks for all of the great ideas so far. I would like to have the board of directors decided by Mid January that way we can start working on the rules for the season, including start & finish dates. Also, gives us enough time to try & find a sponsor for the league.
