Former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell released a report today which was commissioned by the Commissioner of Major League Baseball, Bud Selig. The 409-page report, which covers a 20-month investigation, was to examine the "Steroid Era" and says the problem of performance-enhancing substances may be the most serious challenge that baseball has faced since the 1919 Black Sox scandal. Eighty (80) individuals are called out by name in the report as having taken or provided drugs.

Everyone involved in baseball over the past two decades—commissioners, club officials, the players' association and players—shares to some extent the responsibility for the steroids era. There was a collective failure to recognize the problem as it emerged and to deal with it early on.

Wow, Brian Roberts doesn't deserve to be mentioned in this at all. They mention him because a low player "Larry Bigbie" or w/e his name is says that he did it. If they put people on the list because someone accuses them of it. The list has no credibility IMO.

It was good evidence for Clemens and Petite.

Honestly thats how most of the names got on that list. Its extremely simple, many players were contacted to be interviewed by this commission. The players union publicly recommended that players not cooperate with the investigation. Each of these people had a chance to defend their name, yet they didn't. I don't feel sorry for any that are mentioned and honestly don't give a shit as to what the Union has to say after the matter.

I strongly feel that if you want to keep your name clean then you must be active in doing so, these guys didn't feel the need I guess and now they'll be investigated in depth. They dug their own graves by not helping themselves and now they can lie in them.

Did you hear the Brian Roberts story?? He lived with 2 other Baltimore Oriole players. They admit he never did steroids, then a guy says "Oh I seen him" or "I think he did it" and they get on the list. It gives it no credibility. If they don't have strong evidence I don't believe it. People could be mad that they got cut from a team and say "So, and so did it"

Was he asked to speak with and if so did he refuse to talk to Mitchell and his committee?

I don't know that is all they said on espn. I am sure he will come out with his own statement soon. To defend himself.

I'm sure nearly everyone mentioned will be doing this, but I still have to ask those who are mentioned if they had a chance to clear things up before all of this was released. If they did but refused then whats the point in coming out now? If they wanted to handle business they could have then and at least that their involvement would be mentioned.

This whole thing is bad for baseball! It's taking away from the sport. All I can say is atleast my boys A-Rod and Jeter aren't on the list. But hey if all it takes is someone saying they have done it and there on the list, everyone in MLB better watch the asses.

I haven't liked baseball since the strike. Greedy, whiney baseball players have ruined it for me.

I totally agree with you! I'm really not into baseball too much but as they were getting out of the whole strike thing, the steroid talk begins. I LOVED the NBA during the Bulls dynasty but when they went on strike I stopped watching basketball until LeBron came into the NBA.
All sports players are greedy and selfish as hell! I love A-Rod but $275 million for 10 years... A little ridiculous if you ask me!

Baseball is shooting itself in the foot. They know half the league(if not more) do steroids. They need to solve the issue and solve it soon.

The problem is this douche just released a 409 page report... So the issue is not even close to being solved anytime soon.

The problem isn't the report, at least that is getting things more into the light. The problem is that organizations don't give a shit whats going on or what their players are doing as long as they are WINNING. Furthermore the players association is protecting the players, to hell with the legitimacy and integrity of the game. They have to try to get players salaries up, create a positive image of the players, and make sure they players are protected; even at the cost of destroying the game so it seems.

I love baseball and like many the strike in '94 set me back until about 2000, since then I've kept my eye on it and watched with interest. If you want to blame people for whats going on right now you have to point your finger at the players, the players association, and the league offices; they're the real screw ups in all of this.

If Pete Rose can't get into the Hall Of Fame because he bet on his team why the hell should any steroid using dickweed who cheated the game, cheated the fans, and cheated themselves?
