MONTREAL (AFP) - After catching his 15-year-old smoking pot, a father sold the hard-to-get "Guitar Hero III" video game he bought his son for 90 dollars for Christmas at an online auction, fetching 9,000 dollars.
The sale took place after the father spent two weeks searching for the video game for the Nintendo Wii gameboard.
"So I was so relieved in that I had finally got the Holy Grail of Christmas presents pretty much just in the nick of time. I couldn't wait to spread the jubilance to my son," the father wrote on the eBay website.
"Then, yesterday, I came home from work early and what do I find? My innocent little boy smoking pot in the back yard with two of his delinquent friends."
The man, a school teacher, who kept his identity private, said he sold the coveted video game to punish his son and discourage him from smoking dope.
The sale was a boon for the family's bank account, since the game the father purchased for 90 dollars (US) was finally sold to an Australian who plunked down 9,100 dollars for it.
The naughty son, however, will not go without a present on Christmas.
"I am still considering getting him a game for his Nintendo. Maybe something like Barbie as the Island Princess or Dancing with the Stars ... I know he will just love them," the father said, tongue-in-cheek.

$9,000? Typo much?
Regardless, that parent overreacted. Smoking pot isn't even remotely as bad as everyone seems to think. Now if he was smoking crack...? I would have punched him in the face.
Seriously, drinking kills people daily. When has anyone ever died because of marijuana?

Nope, nine-thousand American dollars.
Anyway, smoking pot won't kill you, but it does fuck with your brain chemistry, and can have quite serious long term results (though in most people it's quite harmless when used in moderation). Either way, it's up to the parent to decide how they handle this, and I can only appaud the guy for taking an active role in his son's upbringing.

He didn't overreact, his son was doing an illegal drug in his back yard. It doesn't matter what drug, it's the principle.
Alcohol is a disgusting drug and should be outlawed IMHO, I grew up in a bar and could never understand why marijuana was illegal over alcohol and cigarettes. And there's the typical argument that marijuana is impossible for the government to tax which factors in and the fact that it's completely impossible for politicians to come out for marijuana and be taken seriously... hopefully at some point in the future our nation will mature enough to the point that we can rethink our stance on things and get us out of the losing war on marijuana which costs our nation so much money for something with such a small effect.
However, marijuana is a gateway drug, it's something illegal which effects your brain and gets kids used to the idea that doing an illegal drug is okay, I would have done the same thing to my own child. Screw the little bastard's Christmas.

I think the father acted properly. It's good he's taking an active roll in his son's upbringing. Too many parents just don't give a damn. They let their kids do whatever they want whenever they want. Kudos to this father for caring.

I still thinks its just ridiculous that someone would 9,000$ for Guitar Hero 3 but either way I think I would have acted the same as the father and I applaud him for making a good decision for punishing his son for his bad decisions. Hugs not Drugs:p

I would have broke the guitar over his litte bastard head then I would have made him burn the disc.
But I hate children.

I agree with Volum3 and Euphoric. Whether or not you think pot should be legalized, it's not. His kid was in the backyard breaking the law, and deserved to be punished. I think it was a good punishment and I would have done the same thing. Besides, the kid deserved it for being dumb enough to smoke it where he had a chance to be caught. :p When I was a kid, we rode dirtbikes out into the middle of nowhere to smoke. (except for the one time we smoked up on the trampoline)
