I'm in the market for a new laptop/computer and have heard so many good things about macs. I currently have the biggest hunk of crap HP laptop right now and need something new. It freezes all the time and it don't help I spilled a pepsi on my keybpard :p. Is it hard to adjust from windows to i'm assuming if I bought a mac it would be leopard? What would be a better a desktop or laptop? I'm looking for opinions from windows lovers and mac lovers. I don't game much on my pc, or even at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

LOL.
Leopard Comes with Boot Camp. Do some research.
OP, I suggest you do the same. I am a Mac owner, have been for years and wouldn't have it any other way. They have been worth the money i have spent on them over the years and I have converted many members to them. But I suggest you take the time, do the research and spend some time in an Apple store to see if they are right for you.

No offence, but It's fairly obvious that you know nothing about anything Mac based, so I don't think you should have any helpful information for this person.

I'm not saying that, just sometimes I avoid posts because I honestly have no helpful insight.

The learning curve isn't too awfully bad, there were a few things I was completely clueless about when I first got my Macbook. Google searches were always helpful and I found a few Mac forums that helped me find the information I was looking for; copy/paste, what programs to use, etc.
I personally love the Mac and prefer it over my PC laptop, actually I'm always on it and it usually comes with me where ever I go. I've had far fewer problems with the Mac than I have with a PC. Its well worth the price tag in my eyes.

i have a mac. i have had a lot of experience with windows and have found that mac's are a lot better. its not so much the hardware side of things, its the OS that makes the difference so big. UNIX FTW.

Linux FTW!!!
Screw the dumb downed Unix Mac OS.
It's a matter of simplicity. If you're a power user go with Linux or Windows. If you like your OS to coddle you and gently walk you through everything then Mac is the way to go.
There's isn't a clear winner any direction that you go. No OS is better than all of the others. I know I bash Mac a lot....but a lot of that is the company. Apple makes me sick. Every operating system has it's faults/advantages.
I definitely recommend against k_dog's suggestion of spending time in an Apple store. Their job is to act out the "culture" and influence you. Go to a local retailer that sells Mac's. We have a computer super store called Micro Center that sells them.
LOL.

I can't tell you how hilarious it is to see you suggest Boot Camp. :D:D

Bah, you just don't want to lose another one of your following to the good guys. :p
The Boot Camp problem was my fault, next time I'll make sure I am installing Vista with someone who's done it before.

I'm thinking mac is the way i'm going to go... I was playing around on apple.com last night and watch a video on all the new stuff for leopard! I must say WOW. I just have to bring myself to spend a couple g's on a new laptop. One more ? What's the difference between a macbook, and a macbook pro? Just the hardware? Thanks for all the help that has been given :)

A few inches, normally larger hard drives, better graphics cards. There have been a few design programs that strain the resources of a Macbook, but work flawlessly on the Pro. Personally I have a Macbook (13") and love it, I specifically wanted a smaller laptop and for what I do it works great. I run Windows Office, Adobe Photoshop, Studio 8, a lot of different design programs and don't have any issues. I still need to upgrade to Leopard myself though.

difference is hardware and price .. where i live the base macbook pro is 3/2 times more expensive than the better macbook. I have my sources though, so i got mine half price :P. But really, it depends on what you are willing to spend.

Check out their refurbished Macs on the website. They are in perfect condition, wiped clean, and you usually get a ton off of the price.

as far as adjusting goes, I had mine for one day, and I'm a total convert that understands most of the systems functions. on a Desktop system with a mouse you can change the mouse to two buttons like a PC but as default for right click you have to hold click down, as the laptops have no buttons, only a touchpad, you may get a lil frustrated if you are so used to your right click, a mouse added on may help ;)

Unless they've changed them recently the laptops have a button below the touchpad. As for the right click feature this can be a little tricky to work with and takes some getting used to. In the system preferences you can turn on "Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary clicking". What this allows you to do is tap the trackpad with two fingertips and its just like right clicking a mouse. I use it all the time; in the same settings menu you can turn on two finger scrolling so when I want to drag a page down I just simply drag two fingers down the trackpad and it scrolls down.

yeah I meant the laptops didn't have 2 click buttons on it, thanks for clearing that up Clipse.
also, I didn't know about the 2 finger tap, thats pretty cool, I might have to invest in a macbook when I get enough cash.

If you bought a Mac right now (an up to date model) yes, it would come with Leopard. Whether or not to get a laptop or desktop really depends on you but if it doesn't matter either way, I would suggest going with a Macbook (laptop) especially if you don't game on your computer. It'll be cheaper than a desktop Mac or a Macbook Pro and unless you absolutely cannot live with a 13" screen, is the Mac I'd suggest to most people. Personally though at this point, I'd wait. Rumors are Apple will debut a new ultra-thin Macbook in the first month or two of 2008.
As for the question "Are Macs worth the money?", look at it this way. Macs are like high-class hookers to the PCs hood-rat corner bitch. They basically serve the same fuction but the Mac will be a little better, a little bit sexier, a little tighter, and without all the nasty viruses. You get what you pay for.
