View Full Version : Xbox 360 HDMI Conversion Kit, $90 in Jan. by Madcatz

We're not sure who the market for these things is. On the one hand, every new Xbox 360 comes with an HDMI port built-in. On the other hand, if you've got an older system, it's more or less guaranteed to fail and the system you get back just may have an HDMI port in it. Process of elimination leaves people who've already had their 360 replaced and are left with fully functioning – yet cruelly HDMI-less – consoles, so we'll direct the remainder of this post to that no doubt highly lucrative demographic.
If staring longingly at your pal's HDMI connection has you feeling like less of a man, then consider MadCatz's HDMI Conversion Kit, available in January for the low, low price of $89.99. The device supports resolutions up to 1080p, includes an optical audio port, and comes with both HDMI and optical audio cables. Isn't that worth it for a strong, thick digital video signal?

Seems like a pretty retarded move in my opinion.

These had been rumored for some time, not necessarily by Madcatz though. I agree though, granted I don't have an HDMI option on my console I also don't have an HDTV.
My birthdays coming up guys, anyone want to shell out on an HDTV for me? :o

It's pointed at a pretty small market. People who have a 360 without an HDMI port and has a TV that actually runs at 1080p. Then to make the market even smaller some of the 360s people are getting back after they get the RROD actually are the newer models with HDMI ports and we all know how often these things fail.

Considering that they cost almost $100... and to upgrade to an Elite would cost me close to $200... I couldn't ever justify purchasing this thing... EVAR!

Im with volume, way better deal to just upgrade imo. Ive been thinking about getting the larger HDD for a while and that is 200 about then throw this in for another 100 and that is nearly a damn Elite. Whats better then a 360........... 2 :D ill probably just buy an elite in a lil bit.

What is this upgrade thing you speak of?

lol, I call microsoft... tell them I bought an elite and would like a transfer cable... get my transfer cable... go to game crazy... they give me $170 for my old box... I buy Elite... transfer memory to elite... and have Elite :D $450 with a 10% discount = $405... plus $170 traded in = $235... So it wouldn't quite be $200... but it's close ;)
But if I trade in a few games I don't play anymore... maybe like Halo 3... makes it quite affordable ;)

XCM made one for $60 like 8 months back. It got some good reviews. I just exchanged mine with a warranty for an Elite:D

Why not just run 1080p over VGA? Is HDMI quality that spectacular?

No. It's actually indiscernible between VGA (some people claim they can see it, but it's unable to be detected by the human eye... placebo effect)

Chances are, people that have a 1080p television and don't have an HDMI premium, arcade, or an elite are a small number. Maybe 6.

I'll tell you why I like HDMI. I like it because I don't have to plug in 5 little wires I just slap in the one fat cable and bam I'm done.
But my tv only has one HDMI port and that device is way too exspensive. No where near enough reason to waste money on that beast.

It can be seen if you have a 60 inch Tv and sit less than two feet from it. No body does this but that is the differance in quality.
Two wires are better than Five with one flopping. This is always a great idea for people that have a enterainment stand full of devices. Reducing wires always helps.

I got myself a 23" Sony Bravia 720p/1080i last year, and it has only one HDMI port, and that is used for my PS3. Belkin has come out with a two-HDMI switcer for $50.I might pick that up if I find some extra cash.
I neevr used VGA, but it is obviously way better than component. Component is just more widespread, and people use it more with their 360s cuz it came free with it.
What I am personally looking for right now is a fiber optic switcher if there is one:p
