I hate mystery creature films. You wait all movie to see the freakin' monster then you end up with something like "The Village" or that one recently with the crocodile/aligator what ever it was. All lame as hell.

given from that trailer it doesnt look all that great BUT its done by JJ Abrams (the Lost guy) so i have the utmost faith in this film and know that it will kill in the mystery genre just as Lost does...i will for sure be attending this one

Cloverfield, AKA the next Godzilla movie.
No. ;) Definitely not.
This is old, and to me is past its hype. It was cool when the trailer came out when Transformers came out. However, so far I have seen some poor attempts in the viral marketing department, and this movie had some potential for becoming a phenomena. I'd like to punch the advertising agency responsible for not living up to the movie's potential.
Also, back when this was popular, people thought it as godzilla, and has been proven wrong FOR MANY reasons. All Godzilla sound bytes sound nothing like the ones from the trailer, and the rights for Godzilla movies are not in play or something, and it has been stated that there are no planned godzilla movies for AWHILE.
This is a different monster movie. Hopefully it will be good, I hope it will be. :)
EDIT:
Imamanatee is the closest. The believed monster is to be SPOILER!!!!! OH NOES DON'T READ THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT THE ENTIRE MOVIE RUINED FOR YOU!!!!!>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> a squid, possibly one of Godzilla's minor foes, but Godzilla will not be making an appearence. Sorry.

Are you serious? I said that, the rumors most likely point to a squid monster. Apaarently Boss has a picture of it, and yes it indeed does look cool, but I don't see what I did wrong. If it was a Godzilla movie, would Gra1k be ruining the movie for you? If I told you that Anakin turns into Dart Vader, would I spoil Star Wars Episode III for you? No.
I guess, maybe in hindsight, I should have put a spoiler warning, but I'm not really spoiling anythig, because I'm not necessarily right. ;)
So when people were guessing what might happen in Halo 3' story, and the people who were right; did they spoil the game for you? It's all just theories and discussion. It's not proven that the monster is a squid, it's just the most likely candidate.
You know that new Rambo movie? My thoughts collectively suggest are that he dies in the end. If I'm right, did I spoil the movie for you? No, I simply stated what I thought, as-a-matterof-factly, but nonetheless simply stated.
Come on. Are you seriously that disappointed? If so, I apologize, but if not, then may I please continue the discussion of POSSIBLE monsters without having to sugarcoat everything. Please?

Wow. Why? It is a theory, and a conecption drawing for the movie, if it is legit. This is most likely not the final moster appearence.
*SPOILER*
It is OFFICIALLY not Godzilla, because JJ Abrhams, is quoted on saying that the entire purpose of the movie (pther than make money of course :p) was to give the US an equivilant to Godzilla. (He thought King Kong was too cute :D)
Why hope the movie tanks? It might, don't get me wrong, but it will turn a profit regardless. It only took $50 Million to make, which is surprsingly low for a movie, but with the factin mind he's using some unknown actors, it could make a little more sense, but still.
And Manatee, if I don't see it tomorrow, I am seeing it VERY soon. I'm looking forward to telling you guys my thoghts! :D

No my mom wasn't an extra in the movie, and neither was I! I saw your mom though, she portrayed the monster very well. :p JK.
Anywho, after watching the movie, I'll have to day I'm pretty damn satisified with what I expected. I knew I wasn't going to get all the answers, and after coming to terms with that, I really loved this movie.
Any discussion or speculation on the part of the people whio have watched it? :D
SPOILERS:
Questions....
Soooo, what do you guys think the small( well not small, small) spiders things were? Offspring? Lice from the monster? Something else? And why do their bites make people esplode(yes I spelled explode with an 's')? Why are there so many?
Why name it Cloverfield? If the name was given for the same reason the Manhattan Project was called the Manhattan Project, what contribution did the government have with the cloverfield monster?
Did Lily survive? Did any of the other protagonists survive?
And here's something I'm having trouble with....a tentacle hit the Brooklyn Bridge...The tentcale was fairly large, and I could not personally find a similar tentacle on the moster throughout the whole movie. More than one monster?
Where did it originate? Not how it was born, where it came from...like exactly where off the coast of New York?
Also, I found something interesting about what Hud said. He said that when the spider thing tried to get him, it was like it was "dragging" him "away"...away to the monster?
This makes me believe that the spider things were sybyotic parasites that get shelter and food from the monster, if the spider things get food for the monster. This would make their talent of making poeple nlow up with a bite very handy...easy to transport food.
Now, I hope to god that they were not babies...because that means there's another God Damn monster, which could be even bigger. It might be as huge a difference as a male and female black widow....That is scary...
Sequel? The movie obviously is getting extreme mixed reactions, regardless, it seems to be very successful so far...so why not? I would pay $100 or more to see the sequel right now I'm so desperate for more.
Thoughts? :D

MORE SPOILERSSSSSSS
I think the little guys were gatherers for the monster.
I'm almost sure there were more monsters. When they're in the electronics store, there are several tentacles on that monster. I'm certain that was a squid that came out of the water and attacked the tanker and collapsed the bridge. When they rescue Beth, they look in two different places and a ton of stuff is getting destroyed. You only see the larger buildings once then, and it looks like a friggin T-Rex. Everyone in the theater was going apeshit when the tentacle came out, screaming about squids.
If you look at the movie poster, theres a trail of water coming from the statue of liberty to the city.
I'm pretty sure lily got away, she was at least 15 seconds ahead of them and the moster specifically attacked their chopper and spent it's time chewing on hud. The government found that tape.
The ending: When they're on the feris wheel, something drops out of the sky and into the ocean. If you followed the pre-release speculation, there was a company called Taraguto that did deep sea oil drilling. They own the company slusho... which is made from deep sea nectar. In the movie, they drink slusho and someone has a slusho shirt on. On the taraguto website some time ago, they reported a piece of their satellites going down.
It's obvious that the monster[s] lived below the sea and they were disturbed by the drilling.
Did you stay after the credits! There is a voice clip at the end of Rob saying "Help us". However, backwards, it's "It's Still alive" It sounds like a different voice, but maybe thats me flipping out. My point is here. (http://cloverfieldmessage.ytmnd.com/)

Spoilers
I knew that there was supposed to be the sound clip at the end, and I was staying after the credits, and I just couldn't do it. I got one of the most obnoxious crowds movie going has ever seen while watching the movie. They were screaming random crap throughout the whole movie, and a bunch of people were getting pulled out...then at the end, I guess the monkeys didn't like the ending, so they stayed and screamed "what the f*ck" for the whole credits. And that is why I decided to leave before the sound clip/
I was fully aware that "help us" was the sound, but the "it's still alive" backwards is a new thing I'm excited about.
I also came to the general conclusion that they monsters were gatherers, as suggested by my other theories supporting it...
And I do think that Lily got away, and my dad was joking that Cloverfield 2 would just be about the monster killing 'the one that got away'. :D She seriously though is a loos end, which will hopefully be resolved in the sequel. And no, I didn't notice the satellite. :( The audience would scream in fury every time it went to April 27th or whatever... :mad It was mostly a few dozen guys in the back, but everything else was alrigth I suppose.
I still found a way to thoroughly enjoy the movie, so it's all good. :)

Good movie by far. Feel bad for NYC though. I just want to know more about it. Maybe a graphic novel of some sorts. But the little guys remind me of a mixture of these (http://developer.valvesoftware.com/w/images/thumb/b/b6/350px-Antlion.jpg)
and these (http://www.iht.it/cinema/star4.gif) and these. (http://polyphobia.de/nonpublic/muddles/blizz/zergling04a.jpg)
Overall a really good movie and thanks for the link for the credits thing. I couldn't hear it because everyone in the theatre was like "well, it wasn't godzilla and OMGWTFBBQ!".\

I know that. :p I mean, according to JJ abrahms, Cloverfield (in the world of the movie) was a government project, named similarly to the Manhattan Project, or so he is quoted on. The original title was just a cover and it was the street, and the new name they chose (grey something or other IDR...) became to widespread so they kept the title.
However, I am wondering how it ties into the movie.

Already been covered by Manatee. :D
where is all this info on slusho that you guys are getting?
It is ALL over the internet. Just check the right forums, blogs, and sites.
And Manatee i right
Spoilers
Slusho is a product owned by Taraguto(sp?) which was wher Rob was going to become VP in Japan for. The company drilled the ocean bottom. The utters theory id the first I'm hearing of Manatee...I've been hearing it was found in undersea "crevases" like HUd mentioned. :D The splash, I'm assuming you guys know of, is supposedly the companues' satellite, but some believe it to be the meteor or the source of the monster's appeance. Whether it disturbed the monster or it was the moster, or whatever.
Another theory was that there was no monster until the thing fell into the ocean, reacted with the key ingredient of Slusho from the drilling. This turned supposedly some biological organism into the large Cloverfied moster.
And I think the fact we saw the video means a few things...the footage is very pivotal in the world where Cloverfield is set. There's bound to be 10 times as much visual evidence of the monster. The clues in the movie are very interesting. Not only are they little nibits for the audience but it also serves a purpose for marking its importance to the governement, The video contains lots of things, and probably some subtlr things we didn't pivk up or didn't look for.
Bottom Line, the fact the video was retrieved means that Rob and Beth could have survived. Most noteabaly this means the city wasn't nuked, which is what the black guy swore the governement would do if they couldn't destroy the monster. No nukes means something important happened.
Also, a theory that I find very interesting is that the spider monsters is a bigger threat than the monster...these things could have been the thing hat upset the monster. Notice the monster running and rubbing into the buildings. Are the spiders falling off, being dropped, or being forceably shaken off? And how did they coem to be? I think their role is more important than the monster's is whatever it is.

Okay, this thread needs to be bought back up because my friend just watched it and I was talking to him and he said he didn't think the monster was from the planet, I asked why and he said that at the end, something crashes into the sea on the ferris wheel!
I was like OMFGZORZ!
Well, it can't be the monster based around the fact J.J Abrams says, "The concept for the monster is simple. He's a baby. He's brand-new. He's confused, disoriented and irritable. And he's been down there in the water for thousands and thousands of years."
Also, apparently it was a satellite =\

Also, apparently it was a satellite =\
I saw the film twice and I can confirm that at the end when the film cuts back to coney island when the camera is pointed out towards the water, just to the left of the ship something plummets from the sky into the water, this could be a satellite.
people have theorised that the satellite caused the creature distress and it went to find the source of the problem, it found man.
