NILES, Ill. -- Getting stuck in an elevator with no way of reaching anyone is a nightmare scenario for many, and it was reality for two suburban Chicago women.

Beata Bartoszewicz said she and her mother went to clean a Niles office building days before Christmas. They stepped into an elevator and hit the button. Nothing happened.

They didn't have a cell phone, so they couldn't reach anyone. And the building wasn't due to open until after the holiday.

After two days, they felt dizzy from hunger. The 25-year-old said she began to think they might die.

Luckily, two people happened to come to the building on Dec. 24 and heard them scream. Fire department crews freed them hours later.

Bartoszewicz said the moral to the story is to always have a cell phone with you.

Now, here's my question: When was the last time anyone was in an elevator that didn't have either an alarm or a telephone?

HAHA, and most elevators have a camera in them nowadays too...so security can see who is going up and down...haha...that's just a little wonky for me...

When I read the topic title I imagined you were stuck in an elevator and posting to CH about it from your phone. :D

I know of one elevator without an alarm button by the way, a really old one in an appartment building. I think the thing hasn't been inspected in ages.

I used to do security in an office building and the phones and emergency buttons went to security.

If there's no security in the building...

And our buttons/phones didn't work half of the time.

I hope there was good music at least playing for them.

Elevator music is never that great although sometimes they person does have some good music and you kind of jam to it while your waiting for your floor. Anyways that would have sucked to be in the elevator but they could have always climbed out the top :D

Yeah lets hope they had good music with them. Or maybe a DS or PSP would have been nice too with some good game. That would have kept me content:D

I don't know about good old JB but I would have done a Macgyver and made something that opened the door with pocket lint, a gum wrapper, a rubber band and a band-aid. Oh and a thumb tack:D

This is scarey for that company. Two people entered their building and no one checked them out for 2 days? Maybe they where getting paid under the table ? The company I work for you must either clock in and out as a employee or sign in and sign out as a visitor of grounds. Sounds very unsecure.

this is quite funny but doesnt really make much sense, how would they get into the building with no security or anyone there and then go missing for a few days without family/friends/employers not noticing, i agree with juiced this does sound dodgy, probably immigrants illegally employed, thats just what i reckon anyway.
