Alright, well I don't know what is going on, but I would like to see if anyone knows my problem...

Alright, yesterday Curtis and Myself attempted to connect to each other on Gears for Co-Op, and he kept on getting the message, "Cannot Connect to Host" I also sent him a Chat Invite and it never worked.

Then I thought what would happen if I connected DIRECTLY to my modem. Bam. It works perfectly now, and I can connect to everyone.

So i was wondering if there was a way I could fix my router, so that I can join most peoples games... for some reason I can only join other open games. Ive tried the change it to Static IP and it never worked.

Some info you may need.

Some routers just don't work right with LIVE. I'd check your manual, you need to give the xbox a static IP if you want to do DMZ/port forwarding.

Would you happen to know of a router that would be good for me?

For kicks, I did a Speedtest...

See if your router is listed here (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/homenetworking/equipment.htm).

If so, see if you can find a update to your firmware for your router, depends what brand/model it is.

If not, go buy a "Xbox Live Compatible Router" that is listed there.

Hope that helps.

You can also Wikipedia "Xbox Live" and it tells you the ports to open for Xbox Live, just incase you wanna try that..

I have a Linksys and my NAT was always moderate, then I got a "unofficial" firmware update, and wam. Always open NAT now. =P

I could of looked for you at Xbox.com and tell you if it was compatible, but I don't want to take the fun out of it for ya..lolz jk

lolz

Just for fun...

OK, first figure out how to connect to your router. You have to be wired into to it to get to the firmware settings and such. Linksys i think is 192.168.1.0 (google it or find your manual).

Go into it and figure out how to turn ON Network Adress Translator (or NAT) and UPnP (Universial Plug and Play). That will generally get things rolling. But if you don't want to screw things up, try saving your router setting, then "restore to factory state/default" see if that helps. Try those steps maybe listed above. But be sure to save your settings before hand. AND if you get it to work. Save your settings again. Because routers screw up all the time and for now reason at all.

I have a belkin (not compatiable according to MS) and blue ridge cable (also not compatible with XBL) and I still get Open NAT and the connection test through the 360 and connect just fine.

That list is just what routers they think/know/tested that worked best with Xbox Live.

You could have one thats not listed on there that works just fine and dandy. But if your doesn't work good with Xbox Live, and its not on the list. Then you could just get one thats on the list and test it out to see if it works.

If it doesn't, take it back, and hey. Atleast you tried eh?

But do what he said..and the username/password for routers is usually "admin" if it requires one.
