Recently, Xbox.com posted a letter from Marc Whitten, General Manager of Xbox LIVE, thanking subscribers for their patience with the service. We’ve implemented several improvements to the service, to help ensure ongoing reliability and performance. As the popularity of Xbox LIVE expands, we’ll continue to closely monitor the service and make adjustments. As always, if you are having any problems, please contact your local support (1-800-4-MYXBOX in North America) so that we can assist you.

Marc announced that all Xbox LIVE members (Gold and Silver) around the world would have access to a full Xbox LIVE Arcade game to download free of charge. We’re pleased to announce that beginning next Wednesday, 2:00 a.m. PST through Sunday, 11:59 p.m. PST, Xbox LIVE members worldwide can download the full version of the recent award-winning Xbox LIVE Arcade game, Undertow.

Developed by Chair Entertainment Group, Undertow is one of the highest-rated and best looking games available on Arcade. Undertow redefines aquatic based shooters through a mix of high-definition graphics, intuitive controls and multiple modes of game play action. The game features a full story driven-single player campaign, on and offline co-op, and multiplayer for 2-16 players over Xbox LIVE for Gold subscribers. Players battle for control of the oceans as one of three selectable races, each with four unique, upgradeable units. "Undertow" is available worldwide (normally 800 Microsoft Points) and is rated E10+.

Yet all replies have been related to the game sucking xD

I think that a game that is supposedly so great being offered as compensation is stupid, as if its so great in the first place, surely more people would own it already?

As already said though, free is free, but I expected something better, Tron woulda been cool.

Really they should have given everyone an extra 1 month on their live subscription or 800 MS points so you could buy whatever live arcade you want, or don't already have at least.

Eh, it's still costing them money to give it to us, and I can appreciate the gesture. I think I'll pass though, seeing as how the game's obviously not very good. (There is of course the problem that had they given us a more popular title more people would have had it allready.)

True, but to solve this issue you could download it when its free, delete it, and then redownload it (for free mind you) at a later date if you choose to play it. Thats just playing the system as it is by be getting the free game, but keeping your HDD space at the same time.

Do you even have to finish the download? Just starting and stopping it would probably do the trick.

By the way, it wouldn't surprise me if the marketplace started acting up with milions of people trying to download the game.

This could very well be the second time I've been screwed by these free XBLA game deals....

That I'm not sure of that but it'd be worth a try to just find out. Whenever its released I'll start the download, cancel it and then see what the option is (either Download or Redownload). If I had to guess I would think it would say Redownload because once it starts the download it should have taken payment in a normal setting, as in actually purchasing a marketplace content.

Yeah that's true... but then I'd still have to want to play the game at some point in the future... and I don't :(

well i almost bought this when it came out...im glad i didnt now, but im also kinda dissapointed to read everyone thinks it sucks cause from the looks of it i thought it was gonna be a great game...they should have at least three games you can choose from instead of offering one that alot of people already have..kinda screwing over the community MS:mad:

I read a commentary on why they cannot just give MS points excuse me if it was posted here. It has to do with the rights to selling the game and the exchange of money to the developers. My limited memmory is that MS has to pay the developer per download and it's easier to workout the legal issues with a developer before giving it free to everyone.

The live time would be most logical and probably make a greater majorty happy. I would imagine altering several million membership expirations would cause alot of confusion. Especially those who pay by credit card.

I was under the impression we would all get something that isn't out yet, so everyone is guaranteed to get the free game. Undertow is something I wouldn't have paid for, same with Carcassonne before it, but if its free I'll take it.

Another game I can add to my useless games that I have downloaded list. I guess I don't have to download it at all. But since it's free I supposed I should take advantage of MS being nice for once:rolleyes:

I thought Undertow looked pretty cool, but I've only heard negative from here. A friend of mine said he enjoyed it.
