Clone Story (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/01/080125-artificial-life.html)

Since it was National Geographic I wasn't sure of the whole copyright thing. So I only posted the link to it. But it's a good read.

The beginnings of Skynet maybe???

Very cool and scary at the same time. It's very cool that we are going to live in this world where this is happening and you can say that you were alive at this time.

But in the same aspect. If we get far enough along in this, that could lead to some massive errors. For one, some country could create super humans and just keep producing them over and over which wouldn't be very good.

and succeed where Hitler failed, hopefully nothing to that scale happens, but at this rate, anything is possible.

Yup yup. I really don't want to be fighting an endless, un-winable battle if this happens.

Scary to think about that. Never even crossed my mind when I read the article.

Eh we got a while before we could even create humans or a pig. It's still creepy though.

Wow, no need to get all alarmist folks, this kind of technology is extremely limited, and none of the applications you're suggesting are anything but imagination for a log time yet.

B/c in the article right now they are only capable to replicate the simplest of life. I agree with Azeron it will take for fucking ever before we are capable of anything of for us to replicate like pigs and stuff.

I guess my biggest thing is that because I work in the computer field I often hear, look how far technology has come in the past 50 years, where will it be in another 50 years? And for me I am like holy shit we have come a long way. And then I read stuff like that and start to think that really how long is 50 or 100 years in the overall scope of the universe, not very long. I think that it's not a big deal right now because we are far from getting anything but I still think that we have to think about it because it's in our backyard and we need to be at least aware of what is happening. That way when we do turn on the news and see that they have successfully completed making AI, we are not like wtf where have I been all this time!
